The shapes, patterns and textures of the abalone shells inspired us to make these nesting tables. To obtain the pattern on the table tops we have used the thin part of the rattan vine. The rattan strands are glued to a base by hand so all tables have an individual expression.
The legs are in Rubber wood. Rubber wood is a surplus material from the rubber plantations in Asia. When the trees are about 5 years old they cannot produce enough rubber sap and are subsequently cut down and used in the furniture industry.
The rattan vine grows in rainforests of South-east Asia and in Africa. We made our tables in Vietnam. Rattan has a beautiful, warm hue and a distinct texture.
